In connection with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz which takes place in Jerusalem on January 23, 2020, the President of Israel, Reuven Rivlin in the newspaper Israel Hayom expresses Israel’s gratitude that royals and world leaders have accepted his invitation :

-75 years after the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau – one of the most frightening symbols of the darkest chapter in human history, royals and world leaders gather in Jerusalem to repeat the sacred oath – “Never again.”

I’m proud of the wonderful land we’ve created as our true friends from all over the world have come to. They have accepted my invitation and are joining me at Yad Vashem. They do so with great appreciation for the state of Israel and their arrival is a courageous expression to the whole world that we will stand together to fight anti-Semitism at a time when it is once again showing its ugly face.

The number of Holocaust survivors living among us is declining rapidly and the distortion of the Holocaust is spreading. It is a time of trial for mankind – therefore it is crucial that we all stand together. The great event that is taking place these days is proof that the world understands this and is willing to fight anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial.

Memory is the cornerstone of the ethos of the Jewish people. We are not prisoners of the past, but rather consider our decisions as we remember the past and look to the future with hope.

It is the shared memory that makes a people a nation that shapes our national character and shows us the way. Therefore, we are committed to preserving the memory and passing it on to future generations.

The Fifth World Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem is a historic event in which we will all once again commit ourselves to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and passing on its legacy to future generations.

It is with the deepest appreciation that I welcome the royals and world leaders who visit the capital of Israel. With them they bring their unique voice and national identity. Together we stand shoulder to shoulder in our fight against anti-Semitism in all its forms. We must all be steadfast in our fight against anti-Semitism.

We must recognize anti-Semitism when it is legitimized in centers of power, in the public sphere and even in academia – we must fight it wherever or how it manifests itself.

We – the members of the nations of the world are obliged to realize the oath we have taken – “Never again” through action. We must do this by educating future generations, by enforcing the law, by eradicating incentives on social media, by protecting the Jewish communities, and by promoting Holocaust research without political restrictions.

For the sake of our children, for our sake and for all of humanity, we say in unison from Jerusalem – “Never again”. Together we will preserve the memory of the Holocaust and fight anti-Semitism.
