Iran threatens that the next target is Israel

On the night of Wednesday, January 8, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards fired 15 rockets at military bases in Iraq, where US troops are stationed. The attack was in retaliation for the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad on January 3. Ten of the rockets hit the base Ain al-Asad and one rocket hit the base in Irbil. Four did not reach their goal, writes Israel Hayom.

There are about 1,500 US and allied forces – including approx. 70 Norwegian soldiers in the Ain al-Asad base. A spokesman for the Danish defense has stated that no Danish soldiers were injured in the attack on the base, writes Information. The forces were reportedly warned of the attack in advance. After the attack, Iranian state television declared that at least 80 Americans had been killed, but this has been denied by several sources. CNN reports that no casualties were reported among U.S. soldiers and their allies.

Shortly after the attack, US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter that everything is ok among the soldiers and that they are working to get an overview of the extent of the damage. He has announced a press conference on Wednesday morning US time.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif also wrote on Twitter to spread his message. He writes that the attack on the military bases in Iraq was self-defense. He further writes that they do not want an escalation of the situation or war.

At the same time, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards are threatening to attack American allies in the Middle East – including Israel, if the United States retaliates tonight. They mention the Israeli city of Haifa and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

“Iran is threatening to retaliate over the two attacks, which will launch a third wave that will destroy Dubai and Haifa,” Ali Arouzi, Tehran’s bureau chief, told NBC News.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clearly warns Iran against attacking Israel in response to the US killing of Qasem Soleimani.

– We stand up to those who want to kill us. We have determination and strength. Anyone who tries to attack us will suffer a crushing defeat.
