Mohsen Rezaei, former head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, says Iran is just waiting for a pretext to attack Israel and “level Tel Aviv,” writes the Times of Israel. The threats came in an interview with a Hezbollah-affiliated television station in which Rezaei accused Israel of allegedly helping the United States kill Iranian Supreme General Qassem Soleimani.
When asked whether Iran would follow up on the threats to attack Israel in the event of an armed conflict with the United States, the answer was clear and concise:
– You do not have to doubt that . We are guaranteed to level Tel Aviv. We are just waiting for such a pretext, Rezaei said in the TV interview.
The former leader of the Revolutionary Guards is today a senior Iranian politician and adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“If the United States invents something, then we can use it as a pretext to attack Israel because Israel played a role in General Soleimani’s martyrdom,” said Rezaei, who accuses Israel of tipping the United States about Soleimani’s whereabouts. / p>
Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad on January 3.
This is far from the first time Iran has threatened to attack Israeli cities. In January, there were threats from Iran against the Israeli city of Haifa. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the threats by warning that those who choose to attack the Jewish state would be mercilessly cracked down on.
-We stand up to those who want to kill us. We have determination and strength. Anyone who tries to attack us will suffer a crushing defeat.
