Israeli Security Minister Gilad Erdan promises to bring in 600 policemen to fight the tide of violence raging in Israeli-Arab society. So far this year, more than 70 people have been killed. Erdan made the promise at a meeting with Arab leaders. The Minister of Security will also allocate additional resources to the investigation of organized crime in the Arab sector, writes the Times of Israel.

After the meeting, Ayman Odeh, the leader of the joint list (political party consisting of several Arab parties in Israel), said that it was “an important meeting”, but they also wanted the government to adopt a long-term plan to eradicate violence and crime in Arab society.

“Negotiations will continue and the fight against violence will continue,” sadge Odeh. According to another Arab politician, Security Minister Erdan must agree that a government decision is needed, but that this must be included in the budget.

But Erdan also criticized the Arab community for not cooperating with the police. He also criticized the Israeli courts for imposing too lenient punishment on those taken with illegal weapons. The punishments are not harsh enough to deter criminal organizations and gangs.

In recent weeks, thousands of Israeli Arabs have protested against the wave of violence. According to the Arab parties, the entire Arab community in Israel is being blacked out by the many killings.

-A small segment of our society is made up of criminal groups that use violence as a tool. We want the police to take care of them, “said Odeh.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised that the Israeli authorities will allocate funds to fight crime and violence in the Arab sector.

We must all act responsibly and work together to combat violence.
