Netanyahu during a meeting with Mette: – We should create international vaccine preparedness in the fight against pandemics

Israel has held six meetings with several heads of state – including Denmark to end the Corona crisis and the economic crisis. The most recent meeting with Danish participation took place yesterday, after which the Danish Prime Minister stated that Denmark can learn from Israel – read MIFF’s article about the meeting HERE.

After yesterday’s meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has proposed that Israel, in cooperation with other countries, set up an international vaccine company for research and production of vaccines to put an end to future pandemics, the newspaper Jerusalem Post writes.

– We will be hit by more pandemics in the future. We must join forces and start discussing research, production and supply, first for our countries and then for the rest of the world. We need to start planning for the next few years, Netanyahu said

Netanyahu presented his ideas during a video conference with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. It was the sixth meeting of heads of state. The idea for the meetings came in its time from the Chancellor of Austria.

– We are seven countries… most of us have a population of 5-12 million. inhabitants. I suggest that we discuss the creation of an international company for research and vaccine production. We all have research, science and technological possibilities. To achieve a reasonable economic and scientific scope, we must examine the possibilities of uniting our efforts, Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu also said that countries should work together to develop their own vaccine capabilities if / when future pandemics occur, so countries are not “subject to the mercy of market forces.” The company must be part of the government – not private and it must not generate profits.

Netanyahu also discussed how Israel has managed to become the world leader in its vaccine program, with over 28% of the adult Israeli population over 16 receiving the first vaccine. In comparison, only about 2% of the adult Danish population has been vaccinated against Corona.

Netanyahu called on leaders and their health ministers to be vaccinated against Corona to give the public confidence in the vaccine. Netanyahu also called for the logistical goal of getting as many vaccines as possible to the population as soon as possible.

– Although Pfizer’s Corona vaccine consists of two doses, we aim to vaccinate the adult inhabitants of Israel with the first vaccine sting at the same time as we give the second vaccine sting to the inhabitants who have already received the first vaccine sting, Netanyahu explained.
