Uncertain when Trump’s peace plan comes

Aug 14, 2019

US President Donald Trump has not decided whether to launch his Middle East peace plan before or after the Israeli elections in September, writes the Jerusalem Post. US Special Envoy Jason Greenblatt says they also hope to establish cooperation/' target='_blank'>cooperation with the Palestinian Authority, which has so far boycotted talks with the US government.

It’s Greenblatt who, along with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, has worked most on the peace plan for the past two years. He says the United States does not want to replace the Palestinian Authority, which today rules the West Bank. But he signals that the United States does not want an agreement with the terrorist group Hamas, which today controls the Gaza Strip.

-We are not looking for a regime change. President Abbas is the leader of the Palestinians, so we hope he eventually gets to the negotiating table. We want to continue the commitment or create a new commitment with the Palestinian Authority, says Greenblatt.

The US special envoy believes that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be resolved without the two sides sitting down and talking directly to each other.

The conflict can only be resolved through direct negotiations between the parties. It is not up to the United States, the European Union or the United Nations to decide how to resolve the conflict, Greenblatt said.

An economic conference was held in Bahrain in June in connection with the peace plan. It was stated that the plan will include a support package of more than $ 50 billion for the Palestinians. It will help create one million jobs in the Palestinian territories. Although much information has been provided on the economic aspects of the agreement, so far there has been very little information on the political solutions in the “Century Agreement”.
