While Israel and the rest of the world are focusing on Corona control, the Sea of Galilee has risen to its highest level in many years after a rainy winter, writes Israel Hayom.

The water level in the Sea of Galilee is now only 49 centimeters below the “red line”, which is the maximum water level. When the water level reaches the “red line”, a dam is opened to prevent the Sea of Galilee from overflowing.

The lowest water level was measured in 2001. Back then the water level was almost six meters lower than it is now. It is a critical level known as the “black line”.

In recent years, the water level in Lake Gennesaret has been several meters below the “red line”, but the heaviest rainfall in decades has filled the water level. The last time the Sea of Galilee reached the top of the red line was the winter of 2003-2004.
