Chancellor of Austria: – Netanyahu woke me up to the danger of Corona

On Friday, March 20, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz was interviewed by the German magazine Bild.

The journalist asked Kurz why Austria was quicker to react with strict measures against the Corona infection earlier than, for example, Germany. What is the reason why EU countries react so differently?

Kurz began by pointing out that the countries have been in different situations, the risk of infection coming mainly from Italy developed differently. Austria, Switzerland and the south of France were particularly vulnerable due to the geographical proximity.

-It is also thanks to God that Bibi [Benjamin] Netanyahu contacted me some time ago and asked what that happened in Europe. Wake up and do something! [warned the Israeli Prime Minister]. It was a conversation that woke me up, and since then I have talked to several leaders in Asia who have experienced this. I quickly realized that we had to act, we had to act quickly and consistently, Kurz said.

In a television interview on Saturday, March 21, Netanyahu said Corona could become the greatest threat to humanity since the Middle Ages. The Prime Minister suggested that 60-80 per cent. of the population can be infected in several countries, and that the death toll will fluctuate between 1 and 4 percent. of those infected.

“Countries that did not close their borders when Corona began to spread from China are on the verge of losing control,” Netanyahu said.

Israel was out early and closed its borders and imposed quarantine for people returning home from abroad, and the country is therefore “in a much better situation”, according to Netanyahu. Still, the prime minister hinted that Israel could potentially get “tens of thousands of dead.” “This is not fabrication,” he added

On Saturday, March 21, there were reports of the first Israeli victim of Corona. There was an 88-year-old man who had survived the Holocaust.

At the time of writing, there are 1238 confirmed Corona infections in Israel.
