Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Saturday night against “a sharp rise” in new Corona cases. In recent weeks, the number of new infections per day lay at about 20 people or less. On Friday, the health authorities announced that the number of new infections in the space of a day had exceeded 100 people for the first time since 2 May.
“We have extinguished the Corona flames, but there are still embers and any light wind can breathe life into the flames again,” Netanyahu was quoted as saying by the Times of Israel.
At the time of writing, Israel has 116 Corona infected people hospitalized. 36 are in serious condition and 34 of them are in respirator.
“As long as we do not have a vaccine against the virus, it will come back and it will spread if we do not follow the rules closely,” Netanyahu said. The three rules he emphasized are wearing a mask, social distancing of at least two meters and hygiene.
