Israel fired missiles at a Syrian military base in Homs – state media reported late Sunday – a day after Israel attacked Syrian targets on Saturday in retaliation for rocket attacks on the Golan Heights, writes the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
Two people are said to have died after the attack and two more are injured.
According to a military source quoted by Syrian media, the Syrian air force has “captured” some of the missiles. The attack hit several buildings, including ammunition depots and equipment stored at the T-4 air base.
This is not the first time the Israeli air force has attacked the T-4 base. The base houses Syrian government forces, Iranian revolutionary guards and Russian air forces. An Iranian 747 cargo plane has flown to the base three times in the last ten days – probably with supplies from Tehran.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is affiliated with the opposition, says at least five people were killed, including Syrian regime soldiers, and that the number is likely to rise as some of the wounded are in critical condition.
