Around January 9, 2018, Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat sent what he claims is an overview of Donald Trump’s peace plan to the PA. The President, Mahmoud Abbas. Here are some of the highlights of the 92-page document:

JERUSALEM: The Palestinians get their capital in one of the Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem. Israel undertakes to maintain the so-called status quo and ensure free access to the holy sites in the city.

REFUGEES: Trump’s plan calls for a proper and fair solution

for the refugees in the Palestinian state, without any return

til Israel

MUTUAL RECOGNITION: The international community must recognize Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people and Palestine as the homeland of the Palestinian people.

BORDERS: Palestinians get their own state on 90% of the West Bank. According to Erekat, in 2-3 months, Trump will give Israel the green light to annex the large settlement blocs in the West Bank, an area of about 10% of the area. Trump’s plan says the final boundaries must be clarified in negotiations between the parties.

SECURITY: Trump’s plan says the IDF’s withdrawal from the West Bank will be gradual and will only happen if the Palestinians meet security obligations. Israel will retain security control throughout the West Bank. A Palestinian state will be demilitarized, but with a strong police force. The IDF maintains its positions on the Jordan River and at strategic points in the mountains of the West Bank in order to maintain security both for a Palestinian state and for Israel.

BORDER CROSSINGS, AIRPORTS AND PORTS: Trump’s plan gives Palestinians access to use Ben Gurion Airport as well as the ports of Haifa and Ashdod, but security responsibilities remain The hands of Israel. Trump also demands a safe passage between Gaza and the West Bank. Palestinian border crossings with Egypt and Jordan will be manned by Palestinian personnel, but security will be in Israeli hands. Israel will have full control over the airspace, maritime borders and electromagnetic frequencies, taking into account that this control must not impair the conditions of the Palestinian state.

Erekat recommended that his President reject this plan even before it was presented. And that was exactly what Mahmoud Abbas did in a two-hour speech on 14 January. “May your entire house be destroyed,” Abbas said of Trump, one of the most bitter curses an Arab can utter … it is a desire for the annihilation of a family.

Trump’s plan is similar to the peace plan presented by Bill Clinton in 2000/2001, which was also rejected at the time. It is also very similar to the results of the 2007/2008 negotiations, and also to Barak Obama’s and John Kerry’s 2014 plan as the Palestinians – both of which were rejected.

White House officials reject Erekat’s presentation of Trump’s plan, claiming it is wrong. No matter where fthe eel is lying, the report shows that it is the Palestinians who constantly and still reject proposals for a real solution of two states for two peoples.
