Arab countries have cut back sharply on financial support for the Palestinians

The money no longer flows into the Palestinian Authority (PA). According to The New Arab and data from the Palestinian Ministry of Finance, the PA has not received assistance from Arab countries since March. In addition, foreign aid has been reduced by 50%, writes the newspaper Jerusalem Post.

In total, PA’s revenue has fallen by about 70 percent so far this year.

Foreign aid to the Palestinian government fell by 50 percent during the first seven months of the year, from 500 million. dollars in 2019 to 255 million. dollars in 2020, while Arab aid fell by 85 percent in the same period – from 267 million. dollars in 2019 to 38 million. dollars in 2020.

US President Donald Trump has reportedly asked “rich Arab countries not to give money to the Palestinians”, according to Arab media. The reason is the Palestinians’ reaction to the normalization between Israel and Arab countries, in addition to the Palestinian authorities refusing to deal with the Americans and Israel.

“We do not know if it is a result of the financial challenges posed by the Corona crisis, or if it is at the request of the United States,” said Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki about the decline in economic aid.
