Read why she has opted out of Save the Children

Norwegian Save the Children (Save the Children) recently published a twelve-page report with accusations against Israel in their magazine without a single Israeli spokesperson speaking out.

MIFF published a longer fact check based on Save the Children’s report on 18 March

A large number of minors have been killed or disabled for life during the “Great Return March”. MIFF wrote on 19 March that it did not prevent Re dd Barna and the Norwegian Handicap Association from celebrating its first anniversary on 30 March.

On the same day, a Save the Children member sent the following announcement to the organization. MIFF reproduces member report and Save Children’s response.

Withdrawal is abbreviated MIFF for readability.

Hi Save the Children.

I hereby resign from the organization.

The reason for this is that the Secretary General had his first trip to Palestine and that most of your magazine is filled with demonizing Israel and undocumented stories while leaving lots of children throughout the world lives in wet and cold tents, lacks food and clothing, is starved by its own leaders, abused, raped, etc. They should be the first to be visited, those who can only dream of having just a little of what the Palestinians children have.

It should also be very clear that many Palestinian children are being exploited by parents, teachers and leaders alike to lead the riots. This is something that I follow very closely and that I have seen – also on video. I know they do not have it easy, but compared to many other children, they actually do quite well. You should actually point out that it is their own that is really the problem, not Israel.

There are also many Israeli children who are having a hard time, many are struggling with trauma, many have lost their father or mother to terror. Also this weekend [18. March] twelve children lost their father. And so it is in many countries, but you are more concerned with demonizing Israel and thus also the Jewish people.

Gaza is not occupied as you write. The few hundred Jews living in Hebron can only be where they live, they are not allowed to move into Arab territories. And they live in Jewish-built houses. They got the permission in the Oslo agreement. The Oslo agreement also applies to areas C and B in the West Bank, where Israel must have full control in C and military control in B.

The settlements are legal – Israel has not [forcibly-] settled anyone there, the people who live there have settled voluntarily. As for Gaza, Israel withdrew with all the Jews in 2005 (I think it was), but together with Egypt, they have imposed full blockade. Although they have a blockade, hundreds of trucks are supplied daily with supplies to the strip. Hamas may confiscate some of it, especially anything that can be used for terrorist acts. There are restrictions on some building materials that can be used for weapons production. You should know all that, and if you know it, you should disclose it.

Unfortunately you do not and since those who are worse off are not your first priority I will not support you anymore. I want to find a neutral organization that does not disappoint.

Thanks from me!

The answer from Save the Children

Thank you for contacting us at Save the Children.

Your Save the Children membership has been deleted today.

At Save the Children we listen and respect the views of others. This time, we chose to give the Palestinian children a voice. The Israel / Palestine conflict is created by adults and it hits children hard.

Save the Children’s only obligation is children who suffer. We help children where we have access to it without taking into account who the adults support. We do our utmost every single day to help Palestinian children who are living in a desperate situation. We have never said we support a boycott.

What we have said is that we are always on the children’s side. Wherever they come from. We have also had projects for vulnerable Israeli children in the past. But Israel has a good health care system that is able to take care of its own children, and they have needed our support only to a small degree.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of our work for children. As a Save the Children member, you have helped some of the children who need it most. The support has gone to education, protection and emergency aid. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back at a later date.

On behalf of the children – Thank you very much!
