The Israeli security service Shin Bet has prevented more than 560 terrorist attacks in 2019, including ten suicide bombings and four kidnappings, Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman said on January 20, writes Times of Israel.
-The previous year was fraught with security challenges on all fronts. During the period, we prevented over 560 significant terrorist attacks, including ten suicide bombings, four kidnappings and over 300 shooting episodes, he says.
Although the security services managed to stop most terrorist attacks, they could not stop all. During 2019, several fatal attacks were carried out, including a bomb at a popular tourist destination near Dolev in the West Bank that killed 17-year-old Rina Shnerb and wounded her brother and father. Another terrorist attack that shocked many was the killing of 19-year-old Dvir Sorek.
A total of five Israelis were killed in terrorist attacks in 2019, but that does not include those killed by rocket attacks from Gaza. This is a sharp decrease compared to the previous year. In 2018, eleven Israelis were killed in terrorist attacks.
Shin Bet chief says the 560 averted terrorist attacks are the result of “dedication, determination, perseverance, professionalism and creativity.”
Benjamin Netanyahu is also proud of Shin Bet and says that the security service gives Israelis a sense of security, “which is not a matter of course in our country”.
