Two people were injured, one of them seriously, when they were stabbed by a terrorist in Jerusalem’s Old City on Friday morning, writes Times of Israel
– At approx. 06.20 the perpetrator went through the Damascus Gate. He stabbed a man and started running from the spot. On the way, he saw a 16-year-old boy and also stabbed him, Israeli police say.
The suspect – a 19-year-old Palestinian from the West Bank, was shot and killed by police. The terrorist attack took place on the last Friday of Ramadan, which is a period of heightened tension in the area. Following the attack, police have deployed additional police in and around the Old Town.
The man who was attacked just inside the Damascus Gate was stabbed in the neck and head. His condition is said to be serious.
– I saw a man in his 40s lying by the Damascus Gate. He was almost unconscious and had knife injuries to his upper body. I gave him first aid, stopped the bleeding and he was taken away by ambulance, says one of the ambulance people.
The other victim was stabbed in the back near the Hurva Synagogue. His condition is moderate. Both victims are now being treated at the hospital.
