Today begins the first of at least four meetings of the Ministry of Justice that could determine Benjamin Netanyahu’s political fate. Netanyahu’s defense team of 10-12 lawyers – led by Ram Caspi, Amit Hadad and Yosi Ashkenazi. The other party (the prosecution) is represented by approx. 20 lawyers, led by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, State Attorney Shai Nitzan and Liat Ben-Ari. The meeting will be held in the basement, in a room without windows and mobile coverage, writes Ha’aretz.

The goal for Netanyahu’s defenders is to refute the charges against Netanyahu in three corruption cases, either so that the public prosecutor will not prosecute or a reduction in the charge. The prosecution has announced that they will make their decision before the end of the year.

Case number 4000 is on the agenda on Wednesday and Thursday. Netanyahu is accused of driving regulatory changes in the telecommunications industry, for the benefit of Shaul Elovitch, against positive publicity on the news site Walla (owned by Elovitch). Netanyahu’s defenders believe he only followed the recommendations of bureaucrats. They also believe that no corruption-like agreement was reached with Elovitch, and point out that all politicians have complex relations with the media.

Case numbers 1000 and 2000 are on the agenda on Sunday and Monday. In case 1000, Netanyahu is accused of receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts. Defenders of the Prime Minister claim that these are gifts from friends that did not involve corruption. They also claim that the gifts were not worth as much as the prosecution claims. In Case 2000, Netanyahu is accused of entering into an agreement with the newspaper Yediot Ahronoth to weaken a competitor in exchange for more positive publicity. Netanyahu’s defenders say the prosecution’s recording of the proceedings was only loose talk on Netanyahu’s part, he had never intended to implement the plans.

On Tuesday night, about 300 Netanyahu supporters demonstrated outside Mandelblit’s residence in Petah Tikva, writes Times of Israel.
